A Bride's Guide To Decorating With Wedding Luminary Bags

By Stephen Kennedy

The way your wedding looks is something that can take a lot of planning and decision making. You need to think about how much you want to spend on your decorations and find some options that will give you the look that you want. If you want an affordable way to get your ceremony and reception sites looking their best, you may want to consider adding wedding luminary bags to your decorating scheme. Here are some things to consider.

You may have seen luminaria used before without knowing what they are. These were originally used more in New Mexico and the Southwest United States but as people saw them more and more, they are being used in areas all around the world. Candles are placed inside bags and the glow from the candle can be seen on the outside. Some individuals choose to leave the bags plain while others decorate them.

One thing to consider is how you want to use these items on your special day. Do you want them to decorate your ceremony site or do you prefer to have them as a way to add some pizzazz to your reception venue? If you are planning to use them at your celebration you may want to consider the time of day when your event will take place. If it is during the day time and the venue is well lit, the luminaria may not have the same impact as the glow may not be seen by attendees.

An aisle can look beautiful when lined with candles. They can be set on the floor on either side of the aisle where the wedding party will walk. Often, ropes, ribbons or garlands are used to show guests that they should not cross the line created by the candles. This is a good way to ensure that they will not get knocked over. If they are, this may cause the candle to go out or the bag to catch fire.

You can also use them to decorate the area where you will be saying your vows. You may want to place them around the altar or if you are using a chuppah, arch or canopy you may want to add them around the base of these structures to draw attention to them and give them an added touch of visual interest. The table where you are signing the license or register could also benefit from decorating with these items.

Receptions can also benefit from the use of these items as well. For example, you could use a grouping of them as an alternative to floral centerpieces. If you are using one portion of a venue for your ceremony and another portion for your reception, you may want to use lumninaries to form a path from one area to the other.

You may want to consider decorating the bag that the candle will sit in. You may want to stick with a plain white bag or decorate it so that it matches your wedding colors. You can also work patterns or images into the bags as well so that they cast beautiful shadows on the walls surrounding the luminaria themselves.

Many couples choose to order and purchase these items online. It may be less expensive for you to be able to design custom ones for your celebration and since they do not weigh a lot or take up a lot of room they may also not cost much for shipping either. You may want to figure out how many you need before you start shopping though so you can get a clear idea of how much these items will cost.
