The Function Of Water Softeners

By Linda Ruiz

Water is actually a very significant need of humans. Because of its significance, it has been called the fountain of life. To put it accordingly, the concept of it being a need has become the only significance before. But with the intro of the modern age, the regard for comfort and convenience has become a huge concern.

Actually, before, as long as there is water, there is no need for more designs. After all, things can be done whether or not it tastes good or feels soft. The only matter that is regarded is whether or not it is clean. But that kind of ideology is no longer the case nowadays. With that, water softeners have been created.

Basically, due to the quality of living in this era, the old practices and ideologies have already been left and the new ones have been accommodated. That is why if you notice, these days, there has been a high regard for the feeling of comfort and convenience. And speaking of which, you can say that the change was triggered by the change in the norms.

Now, you might wonder why there is a need for softeners when it is not a solid substance. Speaking of this, when you get to categorize H2O as hard, it has something to do with the substance contained in it. Of course merely feeling the substance will not make you conclude whether it is soft or hard.

Speaking of which, you can call an H2O hard if it has lots of calcium, maganesium, and mineral content. Basically, since they come from the underground, they would be able to acquire the said elements from its sources which are the rocks and the soil. And in order to measure the hardness, the measurement scale is set in milligrams per liter as well as per gallon.

Now, based from the definition of hardness, it is stated that the elements such as minerals, calcium, and magnesium are the reason. However, these elements are helpful. Why eliminate them. Now, actually, though these elements are helpful, if they are not reduced into is desirable amount, it can cause some negative effects.

On of those is that dissolved calcium and magnesium can precipitate out of hard H2O as a scale which then builds up in the insides of pipes, tea kettles, heaters, coffee makers, as well as industrial machinery. Speaking of scales, it reduces flow through pipes and then becomes a poor conductor of heat which makes pipes clog eventually.

Also, hard H2O can reduce the ability of the soap to lather whether in the sink, washing machine, dishwasher, or the shower. When it reacts with a base like the soap, it gives off a sticky substance. However, do not worry about these things. You can make use of various things to remedy your case.

So to speak, you can avail of filtration by distillation. Or if not, you can avail reverse osmosis. Other than that, you can as well add some chemical softeners into the H2O such as washing soda or powdered borax. Basically, filtration can improve the taste of your water. On the other hand, you can also avail of descaling as an alternative.
