The Importance Of Stump Removal

By Arline Bradley

The abundance of natural resources and the quiet suburban living in Spring Hill, Florida makes it a haven for forest flora and fauna. The city has the most beautiful parks in the state of Florida. Trees are everywhere, lining up the streets and the vast greenery surrounding the area. But urban development has caused most trees to be removed.

A full blooming tree can add beauty to the property where it grows. But tree stumps, are an eyesore to the scenery. Those who deal with them can either remove it, or wait for the tree to grow again. Now, the latter can take a lot of waiting time before they bloom fully. You can hire a professional to do stump removal for you. Or there are simple ways to remove stumps by yourself.

Growing roots from a cut off tree are still growing extensively. It could damage any paved surface that it passes to, like your sidewalk or driveway. It can also cause danger to people navigating the path, like tripping over it. An overgrown root is also strong enough to damage sewers and water pipes underground.

Removing stumps mean uprooting the trees entirely off the ground. Simply cutting off the stump would just allow the root to grow and cause additional problems in the future. It can spread wood disease to other healthy trees in your yard. Pests and insects are easily drawn to tree stumps. Bees, termites and wasps can cause damage to your landscape.

Hiring a professional to do the job can make it faster and done properly. Spring Hill companies offer manpower and equipment to remove stumps no matter how big they are. They have the proper machinery like the grinder to make the job faster. A grinder, for example, has a design to mashed stumps and pulped them into smaller chips.

If you do not want them sprout again, removing the root underneath is the only option. You can also apply either rock salt or Epsom salt over the surface to prevent them from regrowing. Lastly, cover it with dirt and apply salt to the exposed root.

There are easy and effective ways to remove for those who would opt to be independent and would want to do it themselves. This process would not require a lot of manual labor, but patience is mostly needed. The most common is digging around the area to expose all the largest roots around the tree. You need to dig in either side of the roots and expose them as much as possible almost to their tips.

Next is, cut the roots using an ax or a saw to cut them into pieces. Pull the remaining roots out of the ground. You can use a grub hoe to wrench the remaining embedded roots out of their very tips. After most of the roots have been processed, dislodging the stump would be easier. You may use a shovel to dig underneath the stump. When all the wood has been removed, chop it up and use it a compost.

You can also use other methods other than cutting and grinding out the roots. You can burn them to the ground, or rot it using a chemical remover. A chemical remover is made of potassium nitrate that is pulverized. This reacts to wood, weakens it, making it rot quicker.
