By Frances Gibson

One of the most unique places in the whole world is the city of Vancouver in Canada. It is a floating city with lots of beautiful destinations and massive infrastructures which might lead some people to think how the land manages to stay afloat with all these structures on it. This is because of the smart minds responsible behind good foundation. Discover the amazing slab on grade Vancouver BC.

There are a number of floating city all around the world and it is hard to deny how majestic it appears to be especially on a birds eye view. Gigantic buildings, breathtaking views and a whole existing civilization lie float together magnificently. No wonder why a lot of tourists love this type of destinations.

Many people find it interesting to know how they made the city stand because again, it is a peculiar design and people who came from a regular type of environment will always find it impossible until they actually get to see and experience it. For every building that stands strong, a great foundation lies beneath it.

Every building whether floating or attached to the ground has its own type of foundation. It does not really depend on the engineer or the architect, it depends on the area where it is going to be built.

From the name of the method itself, we can automatically tell that what they use is a slab technique. Before they start, they make sure that the soil is graded first. After which a flat concrete would be applied on top of the surface followed by having it poured with gravel as a substitute base.

This technique is favorable by a lot of experts because it uses fewer materials which means there would be less expenses. Every builder aims to spend less while getting the best output. Seeing that Vancouver is still standing solidly up to this day, we could get the idea that this technique is apparently reliable.

Another advantage of using this technique is that unlike all the others it lessens the risk of being infested with termites along the way. This is the common problem encountered when using the other methods. When the foundation gets infested, it will create spaces in the compacted soil which could cause erosion and leave unimaginable damages on the surface.

However, no matter how brilliant of an idea it is every system has faults. One of the disadvantages of this method is that it cannot be applied in places that have a cold temperature. The reason behind it is that the concrete slabs might end up cracking when it gets exposed by too much coldness.

Whether you are a builder or just a traveller in the place, you still have the responsibility of knowing about this information especially because it affects your safety. If you know how things work, you will be able to know what to do when distraction comes.
