What Is Still Birth Assistance

By Catherine Wagner

When a baby is born dead after the completion of 24 weeks of pregnancy then it is referred to as still birth. Its not easy to deal with such situation and for that reason, still birth assistance is given to those parents who need it. Unfortunately, the number of stillborn babies is increasing each year and there are a lot of different factors that result in such mishap.

Usually placental complications result in such births and most of the times these problems are either not identified or nothing can be done about it. This is the reason why, its advised to pregnant women to go to their antenatal appointments regularly and ensure that the baby is constantly moving inside. If you feel anything indifferent then do not hesitate to contact your health provider.

You should keep check on your baby movements and if anything out of the ordinary happens then do not hesitate to contact your doctor and tell them everything about it. They would do all the necessary checks to ensure everything is okay. They would do ultrasound to identify if the baby is dead and if that is the case then they would let you know so that further preparations can be done to deliver the stillborn.

Regardless of the possibility that the child has passed on inside your womb and there is no impending danger to you then you might be offered some an opportunity to think whether you need to convey the infant now or some time later. Now and again, ladies sit tight for their work to begin before they bring forth their stillborn infant. Though some of them pick to get actuated with the goal that they can convey when they can.

Feeling emotional about the whole situation is a normal thing because its not something that everyone faces. Its alright to ask, why it happened and what went wrong and why the problem was not identified earlier. You may be advised to get some tests done to find the root cause of the problem.

Although its heart wrenching, but still many parents just want to hold their stillborn so that they can create a memory that stays with them forever. At the end of the day its your decision whether you want to see your baby or not. You may take pictures with your baby if you want to because sometimes seeing back at those pictures soothes your pain and makes you feel emotionally strong.

The process of finding out what actually caused such birth could take a while but sometimes it helps you in your grieving process. Also, it helps to identify the cause and to prevent future stillbirth pregnancies. So, if you get pregnant again, you will be offered other tests and examinations to ensure same thing does not happen again.

It can take some time to get terms with the fact that your baby has died because it is a devastating news. You should discuss your feelings with your partner and if need be, you could ask for professional help. Try going to support groups on a regular basis as you would meet parents going through similar circumstances and who experienced the same grief as you did.
