Fertilizer And Lime Spreader Tips

By Laura Barnes

Lime is the soil condition that is made of the crushed limestone. In several cases, the manufacturers make the pellet forms of it. The main purpose is to raise the soil pH level in an acidic soil. This makes the soil either neutral, basic or just slightly acidic and therefore meets the optimum pH level required by the plant. In most cases, bare hands are used to spread the lime, but the fertilizer and lime spreader often gives uniform results with no wastage.

The broadcast spreaders are also referred to as the rotary spreaders. They are designed to cover several acreage very quickly and are therefore best for large scale use. The mixture drops from the hopper directly to the spinning disc that helps disperse it evenly over the lawn. Given that the mixture that drops far away from the disc is lighter, it is best to overlap to be able to cover all the spots. It does not work efficiently in a small size lawn as the disc scatters the mixture into the neighbor's yard oven even into the street.

The pull type spreaders were manufactured in order to cover large areas. They are capable of spreading two tons of fertilizer for every acre; in 80 foot rows with and at a blinding speed of approximately in 14 mph. This type of spreader is also able to be pulled behind a tractor. Should that be the case it will increase the time deficiency and fuel efficiency by approximately 25%.

Choose the right kind of spreader amongst all the other series of commercial spreaders. One reason is because of its huge capacity; it can spread five tons of fertilizer and 7 tons of lime. It has 180 cubic feet of payload capacity. Its hopper runs 9 feet long and 8 feet wide. The repose sides are at a 45 degree angle.

In addition to the shape and size, the inner factors such as the size of the holes also matters a lot. The pallet size lime requires bigger holes for better distribution. However, the pulverized grains are better distributed with smaller holes. As such, when making the choice, you must have the idea of the lime type to be used.

The third category is the walk-behind drop spreaders. They have similar features like the Walk Behind Broadcasters with a hopper or bucket mounted on the wheels. However, the trigger machines in this design drops the fertilizer directly downwards onto to the lawn. They are available in different sizes with the larger versions having a capacity of 10,000-sq feet of fertilizer or more and a weight of 130 ponds.

There are several buying tips that can be very helpful in keeping your lawn healthy and vibrant. However, just like any other machine, the basic tips are always the same; buy from a well-known brand, ensure that the spare parts are readily available and insist on original equipment.

In order to make the best choice, it is important to only buy from the authorized vendors and ensure that the equipment bought is from the original manufacturers. Buy from the brand that has the spare parts readily available and offers the necessary support. The price matters too, but should not be the sole consideration when making the choice.
