Regarding Residential Exterior Cleaning And Restoration

By Mattie Knight

The problem of building discoloration is witnessed more in the urban dwellings compared to the countryside areas. This is to be expected because there are so many pollutants in the urban regions. Industrial gases, vehicle exhaust fumes, dirt and even grime are some of the main contributors to this scenario. This is why it is recommended that residential exterior cleaning and restoration be done by the affected homeowners.

If debris accumulation occurs in old buildings, they will appear to be in a very bad shape compared to the newer house. Limestone, granite and marble and more affected compared to other building stones. The situation is even worse in houses located in streets or sidewalks because of the graffiti issue.

Even with all this conditions present, the original luster of the construction is not lost completely. When the filth is scrubbed off, the building gets its initial look back. The cleaning methods are several with the most common ones being environmentally controlled vacuum blasts, hydro-blasting, wet or dry abrasive blasts and horizontal shot-blasting.

Bricks, marble and limestone are very vulnerable to filth accumulation. However, since they are commonly used in decorating the construction, they need to be maintained in a good condition to avoid their deterioration. Otherwise, they will crack, break or wear down. Use of sealant materials and caulking are the effective measures in protection of exterior aspects of the building.

Many houses are adorned with marble, brick and limestone. As much as these materials are strong, they are vulnerable to cracks, breaking and wear process. This leaves the once attractive building looking unsightly. Nevertheless, the solution to such problems is very easy. Sealants are made use of in prevention of water damage. Caulking is beneficial too.

Caulking is a very crucial exterior maintenance aspect. You do not have to wait until the heating bill hikes significantly or leakages occur in order to have the building caulked. The process provides a tight envelope to the structure. This in turn reduces the need for using much energy to raise or lower the temperatures of the rooms by trapping the cool or hot air inside. In many places, caulking process is not expensive because tax credits and rebates reduce the price substantially.

Pressure washing cleans debris, efflorescence, gum, spray paint, dirt, mold, pollution and oil from a building very quickly. Nonetheless, do not forget to have the surrounding areas cleaned too because they contribute to the appearance of the building. The process is not expensive and it should be done frequently. It increases the building life and prevents elements which cause rotting of a particular structure. Repairs are very expensive and it is better to maintain the building than spend huge amounts of money doing repairs after the construction condition has deteriorated.

The building can last for a very long time if the restoration and pressure washing process is maintained. Windows need to be cleaned too. There is nothing that puts off potential house buyers and tenants as ugly and unpleasant windows. It communicates that the house is not properly maintained.
