Tips For Indiana Fundraising Events

By Gwen Lowe

There are many different approaches to raising money for a good cause. Some methods are simple and will generate smaller amounts of money. This is fine for a smaller group or organization that is merely supplementing money. Good examples are local sports teams and animal rescue groups. However a larger organization will need a much more structured and systematic approach. All levels of Indiana fundraising do involve quite a lot of work and need to be well coordinated.

There is nothing worst that putting many hours of work into an event only to find that there is a very low turn out because there were a lot of other events on the same day. Scheduling is a very key issue and it is important to look at the calendar very carefully to ensure their is no serious conflicts.

This method is very typically used but is very time intensive. The parents are required to give up their time and work hard, some events do require weeks or months of planning. One of the biggest problems is that inclement weather can really have a huge impact on a fund raising event.

Animal rescue groups are always looking for funds. The recent economic down turn has placed an even greater burden on the over taxed shelters. There are so many animals being surrendered to shelters every year, they all need to be housed, fed and receive basic veterinary care. Every dog or cat will cost the shelter many hundreds of dollars. Yet every animal that is saved is well worth the work.

Many charities and organizations today are finding that they really have to think outside of the box in order to get the funding they need. Corporate and private donations are really important for raising large chunks of money. Getting together an email list of local businesses that might be willing to donate is the first step. Usually one member of the team will take on the job of approaching the business and giving them a presentation. This is the best way to introduce the charity and what it does.

Seasonal activities are often really do work out really well. One of the most popular is a Halloween or fall festival. This can incorporate many themes to keep everyone happy and entertained. Features such as face painting, pumpkin carving and hay rides are family favorites. Food is also an important consideration and good quality well priced treats will sell out fast and make a lot of money.

Fund raising can be a stressful thing to do. It is a good idea for the committee to rotate position every year or so. When someone has been doing the same job for years they often get burned out or stale. Bringing in new an enthusiastic members on a regular basis is very beneficial.

People should never be forced to participate in fund raising efforts. It is much better to ask for volunteers and try to encourage participation. Allowing people to organize their own events, rather than expect them to join an existing project is also a good idea.
