By Christopher Sullivan

Among the Islamic and Jewish religion followers, circumcision is rampant, and it entails the removal of the foreskin around the tip of a penis. Newborn circumcision is a surgery process that is widely embraced in the United States than Europe where the rate if 50 and 1 percent respectively. It is a practice that follows culture and religion doctrines, and this article tells you more about it.

The parents of the baby play a crucial role in determining whether it will undergo the surgery or not since it is no longer a necessity. The process is carried out after a few days of the birth of the baby, but while it is still in the hospital. A person of any age can undergo the surgery out of medical reasons or self-willingness.

There are several reasons why one undergoes the process including becoming equal with the peers, following custom practices and benefiting medically from the process. Babies become safe from urinary tract infections in their first five years of their life.

For the adults, the surgery keeps them safe from contracting penis cancer as well as other sexually transmitted diseases. The process is also a cleanliness procedure since it helps in keeping the genital area odor free and clean.

Those who criticize circumcision feel that the baby does not have to undergo the pain without any religious or medical reasons. They also assert that observing proper hygiene keeps one off sexually transmitted diseases as well as penis cancer.

In keeping the pain away during the cut, doctors apply anesthesia. The aftermath is not painful, and there is no need for a follow up on pain. Adults who suffer from anxiety after the cut are usually given Valium to reduce the effect.

The anesthesia forms that are applicable include creams and injections. After the trimming of a foreskin, sutures are done on adults while babies receive plastic rings to keep off bleeding and make the healing process quick.

Circumcision on adults is usually an outpatient activity, and they resume their daily routines few days after the procedure. However, they should not engage in sexual activity since it can rapture the suture. The itch that follows the procedure usually goes out in one or two days.

Some negative effects of this surgery include a different look of a penis depending on the style that the surgeon applied. If the incision was done too deep from the glans, then sometimes the scarring becomes a problem. As a rare incident, bleeding and infection of a wound can occur.

The pain that comes after the surgery is not significant, and babies are taken home after the procedure. Cleanliness is crucial to the healing of the baby or adult through washing the wound with mild soap and clean water. A keen eye should be kept on the wound to detect any arising infection.

Ten days are enough for the wound to heal both in babies and adults. However, it takes several weeks for one to adjust to the sensations of the removed foreskin.
