The Procedure For Lawn Spraying And Fertilization

By Richard Burns

Lawn care is an issue that is always problematic to most homeowners. Keeping the grass in good health requires a lot of attention from the owner not just in keeping diseases out, but in applying water and fertilizer. These two tasks need to be performed on a routine basis and knowing the right time and procedure of doing it is important. Lawn spraying and fertilization also requires specific pieces of equipment in order to be achieved well.

It takes some expertise to be able to spray fertilizer and water effectively on lawns. The skills are pretty easy to master. However, although easy, some people may be too busy to do the job on their own. In such cases, it is probably best to hire some with the necessary expertise in that field. One can waste a lot of resources, mess up the grass, and only achieve limited results if they do the job without the necessary skills.

The best approach to this job is coming up with a strategic plan. The plan should depend on the kind of issue that is being targeted. For instance, spraying for weeds cannot be similar to when the process is done to eliminate bugs. One should identify the reason for applying the sprays and conduct research on the best way to do it.

Another important consideration is the type of sprayer to be used for the job. Sprayers come in many different designs, styles, shapes, sizes and many other different aspects. One can consult the seller on the functions of different sprayers before making a purchase. Manufacturers usually avail information on their products in terms of application so that users can read and be informed.

When one targets to remove weeds from the grass, spring and autumn are the best seasons to do that. The months of summer are not the best for killing weeds in lawns. Similarly, one should avoid applying sprays on new lawns. New lawns must be given time to develop deep root systems to withstand sprays. It is recommended that new lawns should be mowed at least three or four times before they can be sprayed.

Perfect timing is important when it comes to fertilization of grass. The perfect time for fertilizing is when there are low rainfalls. That implies that the level of rainfall should not be too high or too low. Water-soluble fertilizers are the best. Local experts can give advice on the best mixture of fertilizer to apply. Grass in various stages need to be sprayed with different kinds of fertilizers.

Lawns should not be sprayed with weed-killing chemicals immediately they have been mowed. Mowing introduces open wounds in the leaves through which the chemicals are absorbed into the plant. Some of those chemicals can kill the plant or cause adverse effects, which may retard growth.

Proper irrigation is also a vital part of lawn care. Water is needed in adequate supply for grass to thrive. Water needs to be availed in the required amounts. The root system is killed by too much water while growth is impaired when water supply is inadequate. Irrigation must be done in the evening or morning when the weather is cool.
