Advantages Of Using EWC Controls In Regulating The HVAC Systems

By Coleen Torres

Air quality has been found to be one of the most important aspects of comfort in any building or house. This is a fact that can be supported by research findings. Heating, ventilation, and cooling systems in houses are the ones responsible for maintaining this aspect of comfort in the house. They play this role through zoning, an area in which EWC controls are one of the most reliable components.

Zoning involves the use of many thermostats that control the temperatures of every room. These thermostats are connected to a central system and are controlled from a single point. Once the desired temperature for every room in the house has been set at the control panel, the zoning system maintains the temperatures as the building occupants like.

A single thermostat can be effective at times but might cause discomfort. The thermostat sets a single constant temperature for the whole house, which might not always be appropriate because the conditions for each room in the house sometimes require different temperature settings. With a blanket temperature, there might be a situation where one is comfortable in one area of the house and uncomfortable in another.

The need to make constant adjustments as one moves from one room to another is never present with the zoning system. Zoning is very efficient. Using a single thermostat is very tedious with the changes that have to be made. Using an air conditioning system can be very expensive, because they often consume a lot of electricity.

Using an air conditioning system consumes a lot of energy, and adds to the expenditure on heating or cooling. It has been found that a typical family will spend at least 40 per cent of their income on heating and cooling. Using a zoning system can reduce this number by about 30 per cent. However, there is much more to HVAC than just temperatures.

Dampers are an easy way of controlling the quality of circulating air. In large buildings, they are the preferred choice to air conditioning systems because they are cheaper. They regulate the aspects of air quality that thermostats and temperature zoning systems cannot adequately control by controlling the temperature. There are both manual and automatic ones, which are self-regulatory and require no input.

There are numerous advantages of zoning apart from the obvious convenience and energy expenditure reductions. They help the owner of a building or house achieve what scientists call the comfort zone. This is a set air quality percentage that they consider to be comfortable for majority of people in a house or building.

Poor quality of air circulation is bad for the health. Humidity and cramped conditions increase the likelihood of developing and transmitting air borne diseases. In addition, a house with young kids and elderly people require strict control of temperature. Humidity and high temperatures might also affect the working of some household appliances. In the long run, a good HVAC system reduces the energy bill while improving comfort.
